Mona Diamond Sunshine became the Turkish Honorary Consul General for the State of Georgia in 2005. In the same year, she became the Founder and Chairman of The American Turkish Friendship Council, a not for profit organization for the promotion of close relations between the United States and Turkey. Ms. Sunshine is one of the original founders of the Turkish Lecture Series at Emory University, an endowed lectures series. She is deeply committed to education and had obtained a grant from the Turkish government in order to have the Turkish language taught at Georgia State University. Mona also sits on the Advisory Committee of the Atlantic Council, Washington D.C. to connect and build constructive relationships between young professionals and future leaders from the United States and Turkey.

Ms. Sunshine is dedicated to helping promote trade between Turkey and the U.S. In 2012 Mona Sunshine led Governor Nathan Deal and 50 others on a trade mission to Turkey. She is an honorary member of Turkish American Business Association and works closely with DEIK, TAIK, and GYIAD (all Turkish American Business Associations in Turkey). She also works with TOBB-USA and TUSIAD-USA, as well as all Chambers of Commerce in Turkey including ITO (Istanbul Chamber of Commerce).
She has been a member of ATAA, Turkish American cultural association of Georgia for many years. Mona has recently joined the Global Strategic Leadership Forum and the world affairs council of Atlanta.

Ms. Sunshine is also on the Board of the Turkish Cancer Society in Turkey and has played a major role in placing a Breast Cancer Center at the State Hospitals in Mersin and Adana, Turkey. She is presently planning a Breast Cancer Awareness program for all of Turkey, which will occur each October, which is International Cancer Awareness Month.
